22 kph cross tailwind, 0.3M waves cross-tail. Did my first ever downwinder today! I flew the ama (2nd and 3rd times ever on this run), but not on purpose so don’t ask me how to do it lol! At least I didn’t end up in the drink. Where’s a camera when you need one! Wind chops were crossing diagonally to ground swell, so a lot of washing machine churn. Not the greatest for a downwinder. Also my inexperience in linking ground swells contributed to my slow time. Practice makes perfect! At least I did it safely. Also did roughly a 2k warmup before the downwinder (same conditions) and 8.5K after I got into Frenchman’s bay safely. The bay had weeds and shallows, but at least it was flat. I wasn’t doing any time trials at that point, so I welcomed the flats (even if they were shallow and weedy). After over an hour of washing machine and being tossed up, down, and sideways, when I got off at the dock I was walking wobbly lol. I did manage to link up a few ground swells and man it was exhillerating! I normally do a 1k pace slightly under 6:00 but I was under 5:00 when I was riding the waves. Just need to link them up more consistently.
